Introduction

You are a historian. You are about to publish your first book. This is not a normal book...the pictures Pop Up!



The Task

You will make a Pop Up book. Your Pop Up book will consist of several pages:

  • Explorer page number 1- Choose an explorer of the New World. Describe his background.
  • Explorer page number 2- Describe your explorer's accomplishment.
  • Indian page (indigent population)- Describe an indigent population that came into contact with your explorer.
  • Your choice- Describe the effect or consequence of your explorer's accomplishment (on local population, environment, human rights, life in Europe, religion, etc.---choose one).



Resources

You may use your textbook, reference materials, or the Internet to do your research.

The Process

  1. Go to the Pop Up Book page to learn how to make a Pop Up Book.
  2. Go to the Rubric page to see how you will be graded.
  3. Choose an explorer. Do your research. Click on the links above or find your own links. You may choose explorers not listed above.
  4. Write an essay for each page. The essays should be 30-75 words each.
  5. The explorer essay 1 should include Dates of birth and death, country of origin, and any interesting information about his background. country he explored for, country/area he explored, summary of his exploration.
  6. The explorer essay 2 should include the country he explored for, country/area he explored, summary of his exploration.
  7. The Indian page (indigent population) essay should include the name of the tribe(s) and some of their history and/or the consequence of contact with the explorer.
  8. The Your Choice page is up to you. Topics could include weapons, religion, science, food, customs, the impact or consequences of discovery on the native population, or any other topic related to the explorer or native population.
  9. Draw or print the background pictures.
  10. Find the pop up pictures.
  11. Assemble the book.
  12. Don't forget: You need a title and an essay on each page. Don't forget the cover.
